ART WORKS Guidelines: How to Prepare and Submit an Application

These instructions provide all of the information that you need to submit an application. Submitting an application is a multi-step process. You will interact with the NEA's website,, and the Applicant Portal. We urge you to read these instructions in their entirety before you begin the application process.

First Art Works Deadline:

Part 1 - Submit SF-424 to February 15, 2018 by 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time
Part 2 - Submit Materials to Applicant Portal February 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time to February 27, 2018 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time

Note: To allow time to resolve any problems you might encounter, we strongly recommend that you register/renew your registration by at least January 24, 2018 and submit the SF-424 to by at least February 6, 2018.

Application updates after submission:

Send new information that significantly affects your application (such as changes in artists or confirmed funding commitments) as soon as possible to the specialist for the field/discipline of your project. Remember to include your organization’s name and NEA application number.
