Tessa Barcelo Workshop

On Sunday, September 15, in a cloistered sound studio at the Real School of Music in Andover, Tessa Barcelo, her mentor Anna Jacobs (navy shirt) and music director Anna Ebbesen (black clothes) gathered around a piano, working on Barcelo’s song “Queen,” (a selection from Barcelo’s musical-in-progress).The song features Veida, a human girl who accidentally transports herself into the world of one of her stories, where she meets Queen Iana of the mermaids. The underwater kingdom is under attack by pirates, and Queen Iana has tried everything to drive them out and Veida is her last hope.

Jacobs said of Barcelo, “I’ve been impressed by how mature she is in thinking about changes to her song … she’s been really motivated to keep developing it.” Barcelo said, “I’m thinking about things I’ve never really thought about before.”
