Friends of the Bass Museum, Inc.

Miami Beach, Florida

What started as a 500-piece collection of the Old Masters has evolved into a museum of 3,000 works, which span from ancient to contemporary artists. Founded in 1963, the Bass Museum presents dynamic connections between its historical and modern collections.

The Bass Museum is launching a new public art program that includes a curated selection of temporary, outdoor projects and local residencies for international artists. The artworks will activate the City Center/Arts District of Miami Beach, a roughly 40-block area that is home to many of South Florida's most prominent cultural facilities and institutions. The museum, in partnership with City of Miami Beach's Art in Public Places program, will identify artist projects that are contextually relevant to Miami Beach and to the social context of the specific site where the work will be placed. Preference will be given to interactive projects, and selected artists will live and work in Miami Beach in residencies that range in duration from one to three weeks. Strategic marketing and targeted outreach campaigns will be conducted in conjunction with the installations, bringing visibility to the Arts District as a cohesive destination rather than simply the location of any single cultural institution.
