Our Town

Town of Peterborough

Peterborough, New Hampshire

Peterborough, New Hampshire, is a town in Hillsborough County with a population of approximately 6,300, and was thought to be the model for Thornton Wilder's play Our Town. The Town of Peterborough and Sharon Arts Center, in collaboration with seven additional local arts organizations, will create a feasibility study for a new cultural arts center. Project activities include focus groups, research, community workshops, public outreach, and a concept design to evaluate the feasibility of developing an arts center in an existing garage facility. The property is underutilized and uniquely situated, abutting a commercial main street, residential neighborhood, and wetland. A cultural arts center will provide a new local and regional destination, with the expectation that it will facilitate cultural tourism and elevate the arts as a viable economic development strategy.
