The NEA grant will support an illuminated public art wayfinding system for SoFA (South First Street Area) cultural district, a temporary Pop-up Tienda in Parque Plaza, and an event series consisting of exhibitions, education programs, and entertainment.Artist and architect Teddy Cruz will design the Pop-up Tienda to provide flexible space, moveable furniture, and a shade structure for cultural performances and outdoor events. (While "tienda" is Spanish for store, the "Pop-up Tienda" will have social, recreational, and cultural uses in addition The NEA grant will supporting retail and entrepreneurial projects.)

In partnership with Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americano (MACLA), the city's programming will build on key capital investments in SoFA, including a new facility being developed by MACLA and the planned renovation of Parque Plaza. Programming will target 50,000 annual visitors to the SoFA district, as well as downtown employees and residents from a variety of income levels and ethnic backgrounds.
