United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Inc. (aka ArtsGreensboro)

Greensboro, North Carolina

The NEA grant will support The Fabric of Freedom, a festival of multidisciplinary arts programming that celebrates freedom and civil rights. Designed as a pilot to be launched alongside the annual 17DAYS Arts & Culture Festival, performances and community activities addressing issues of civil rights, equality, and freedom will take place at sites throughout Greensboro. Activities such as panel discussions, workshops, master classes, visual arts, and public art projects will energize the greater downtown area by presenting events in a variety of sites, such as cultural organizations, public parks, university campuses, churches, community centers, shops, and restaurants. ArtsGreenboro will invite performers based on the festival themes, and will issue an open call for artists to be selected by an expert panel. Project partners include the City of Greensboro and the International Civil Rights Center and Museum. Guilford County has a population of 500,000 and live audiences of 50,000 are expected.
