Internship Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid)

Undergraduate and graduate students who would like to gain work experience at the National Endowment for the Arts are invited to apply for unpaid volunteer opportunities at the NEA. Volunteers are accepted throughout the year in many of the Arts Endowment's offices on a non-paid basis. This opportunity offers a national overview of arts activities across the country. Volunteers work in assisting the staff with a variety of tasks and assignments including research and analysis of public information as determined appropriate by the supervisor.

If you would like to apply, please send a cover letter detailing the time period you will be available (including days of the week, if you will not be available for five days), your interest areas and whether you will be earning academic credit. Please indicate your experience and typing ability. Letters of recommendation, references, and college transcripts are suggested, but not required.

To ensure sufficient time for proper consideration of your application, please send materials at least four to six weeks before the date you wish to begin your volunteer assignment to:

Intern Opportunities (Pathways Program)

The Federal Government values the contributions made by students and recent graduates of all ages and backgrounds. NEA Pathways opportunities are only available when announced on [usajobs.gov]USAJOBS.gov, the official website for employment with the United States Government.  Eligible interested candidates may participate in either of the following programs:

Internship Program

The Internship Program is for current students. It replaces the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). The new Internship Program provides students in high schools, colleges, trade schools and other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while completing their education.

Recent Graduates Program

The Recent Graduates Program provides developmental experiences in the Federal Government. It is intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who, within the previous two years, graduated from qualifying educational institutions with an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from qualifying educational institutions. To be eligible, applicants must apply within the previous two years of degree or certificate completion except for veterans precluded from doing so due to their military service obligation, who will have up to six years after degree or certificate completion to apply.
