Social Media Comment & Posting Policy

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA’s) websites and social media accounts aim to share information on the work of the agency as well as the value and impact of the broader arts and culture sector to our lives and communities. We welcome comments on our online sites.  Your thoughts, ideas, and concerns help us better communicate our work and improve our engagement with the public.

The National Endowment for the Arts online sites that allow public comments are limited public forums. Comments should be relevant to the specific NEA post, article, event, program, initiative, or other content to which they respond. NEA staff moderate comments and may remove or hide comments that do not comply with this policy.
Comments that include the following are prohibited:

  • Threats, incitement, obscenity, profanity, sexually explicit language or material, targeted harassment or personal attacks of any kind, including attacks directed at a person or group based on a protected characteristic.
  • Spam, undecipherable content, malware, phishing attempts, or gratuitous links.
  • Repetitive posts, including repeated posting of the same or substantially similar content, including those intended to disrupt discussion or interfere with the normal operation of the platform page.
  • Commercial solicitations or advertisements.
  • Electioneering or campaign-related content, including support for or opposition to a candidate for public office, political party, or political campaign.

  • Content that appears to infringe copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, including links to material that appears to be infringing. Content that is unlawful or encourages unlawful activity.
  • Content that impersonates another person or organization, uses a false identity to deceive others, or misrepresents the source of the content.

Comments that violate this policy may be removed, hidden, or reported to the relevant platform.

Public comments do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the appearance of a comment, link, image, or other third-party content on an NEA online site does not constitute NEA or federal government endorsement.

You are responsible for everything you post. NEA online sites are public and comments may be visible to others, preserved, archived, disclosed, or otherwise used in accordance with applicable federal law, including federal records laws. By posting a comment, you grant the NEA permission to reproduce, display, distribute, archive, and use your comment in connection with the NEA’s governmental, noncommercial, educational, or promotional activities. Please do not post personal information you would not want the public to know, and do not post what you do not have the right to share.
