New Report from the National Endowment for the Arts Shows the Arts Can Be Significant Tool in Fight Against Opioid Abuse

In its first-ever report addressing the nation’s opioid crisis, the National Endowment for the Arts finds that incorporating music into treatments for opioid use disorder can contribute significant, positive effects for patients. The report, Arts Strategies for Addressing the Opioid Crisis: Examining the Evidence centers on arts integration in pain management and in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder.

The National Endowment for the Arts announces the 2021 NEA Jazz Masters: Terri Lyne Carrington, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Henry Threadgill, and Phil Schaap, who is the recipient of the 2021 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship for Jazz Advocacy.

The National Endowment for the Arts, in collaboration with Arts Midwest, announced today that guidelines are now available for nonprofit organizations interested in applying for a grant to hold an NEA Big Read project between September 2021 and June 2022.

Each year, the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read initiative brings communities together around the shared activity of reading and discussing a book. Today, the Arts Endowment is announcing funding for 84 organizations to lead NEA Big Read projects.

As a part of its regular grantmaking, separate from grants related to CARES Act funding, the National Endowment for the Arts announces over $84 million for 1,144 new awards to organizations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and each of the five U.S. territories.
