NEA Chairman Jane Chu to Visit Cleveland, Ohio, May 27–28, 2015

Washington, DC—National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu will visit Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28. As part of the visit, Chairman Chu will give remarks at a public event at the Cleveland Museum of Art as well as at the League of American Orchestras’ Conference 2015, and visit the Gordon Square Arts District and the Cleveland International Film Festival. Chairman Chu will begin her visit to Cleveland on May 27 at a public meeting hosted by the Ohio Arts Council at the Cleveland Museum of Art, an NEA grantee and current Blue Star Museums program member. During the public meeting, Chairman Chu will give remarks about her vision for the NEA and take questions from the audience. This event is currently full, but members of the public may RSVP to be added to the waitlist. That afternoon, Chairman Chu will give remarks at the opening plenary for the League of American Orchestras' Conference 2015. Her remarks will focus on the power of the arts to build communities. On May 28, Chairman Chu will visit the Cleveland International Film Festival, an NEA grantee. Her visit will include an overview of the festival as well as community outreach and educational programs. Following this visit, she will tour the Gordon Square Arts District. In 2012, the Detroit-Shoreway Community Development Organization received an NEA Our Town grant to support an artist live/work space in this neighborhood. Chairman Chu will learn more about this project and tour the arts district, including the Cleveland Public Theatre and Near West Theatre. The following events are open to media.
