Washington, DC—NEA Chairman Jane Chu will visit New York, New York, October 1-2, 2014, to meet with the arts community and visit several NEA grant recipients. On October 1 at 9:30 a.m., Chairman Chu will visit the New Museum of Contemporary Art, recipient of an FY 2014 NEA grant to support the IDEAS CITY StreetFest. On October 2 beginning at 9:00 a.m., Chairman Chu will visit two NEA grant recipients in the Bronx: DreamYard Project and the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation's Bronx Music Heritage Center. The NEA supports DreamYard's Art Center Programs, that teach students in the Bronx to develop artistic, creative problem solving, and collaborative leadership skills; and Bronx Music Heritage Center's Living Legends Performance Series concerts, which honors and celebrates Bronx musicians. Joining Chairman Chu on these visits is Lisa Robb, executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts. Tom Finkelpearl, commissioner of New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs, will also attend the visit to DreamYard.
