NEA Chairman Jane Chu to Visit Wisconsin

Visits to arts organizations and public event November 5–6, 2014

Washington, DC—NEA Chairman Jane Chu will visit Wisconsin on November 5–6, 2014. She will visit arts organizations in Oneida, Appleton, Sheboygan, and Milwaukee and speak at an event with the arts community the evening of November 6 in Milwaukee. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) will join Chairman Chu for her site visits on November 6 in Sheboygan and Milwaukee. Chairman Chu will begin her visit in Oneida, Wisconsin, the morning of November 5, meeting with members of Oneida Nation to learn more about the Oneida Nation Arts Program, an arts agency serving Oneida Nation. Her visit will include performances by NEA National Heritage Fellows the Oneida Hymn Singers and the Music from Our Culture students, and an opportunity to meet local artists. Next, Chairman Chu will visit Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, Wisconsin. In addition to a tour of the performing arts center, she will tour the Fox Cities Building for the Arts and learn about the collaborative efforts of the organizations it houses. On November 6, Chairman Chu will be joined by Senator Baldwin for a visit to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. As part of this visit, Chairman Chu will make a special announcement at 9:00am. Following this announcement, she will tour the gallery and ARTery studio space, and learn more about the arts center's Arts/Industry and Connecting Communities programs. Following this visit, she will travel to Milwaukee where she and Senator Baldwin will visit Latino Arts, Inc. In addition to a tour of the Dia de Los Muertos exhibit in the Latino Arts gallery, the United Community Center, and the Bruce-Guadalupe Community School, Chairman Chu will observe an interactive workshop between Latino Arts Strings Program students and the Grammy award-winning musical group La Santa Cecilia. The evening of November 6 at 6:30pm, Chairman Chu will participate in a town meeting, presented by the Wisconsin Arts Board and Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and co-hosted by the Milwaukee Arts Board, the Milwaukee County Cultural Artistic & Musical Programming Advisory Council, Creative Alliance Milwaukee, and Arts Wisconsin. Chairman Chu will give remarks and participate in a Q&A with attendees. Chairman Chu will have limited availability prior to this event for interviews.
