Washington, DC — More than a half million men and women of our armed services suffer from the invisible wounds of war. The National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense, and Veterans Affairs have joined forces to tackle this ever-growing statistic and improve the lives of military members and their families nationwide. A Clinical Research Summit will take place September 18-19, 2017 at the National Academies of Science in Washington, DC and will bring together world-renowned experts to discuss improving our understanding of the clinical approach concerning biological, psychological, behavioral, and economic impacts of creative arts therapies on our military. Creative Forces: NEA Military Healing Arts Network serves the unique needs of military patients and veterans who have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and psychological health conditions. It is a network of caring people—clinicians, art therapists, artists, arts organization staff, and community members—who believe passionately in the transformative and restorative powers of the arts serving military patients as well as their families and caregivers. Currently, there are 11 clinical sites planned for military installations throughout the country. In addition, this summit will also discuss a telehealth program, which will reach patients in rural and remote areas. This event offers opportunities to speak with national and state military and health professionals engaged in this important work on September 18, 2017.
