Today we're celebrating what would have been the 100th birthday of iconic U.S. poet Gwendolyn Brooks, the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize. In another first, in 1985, Brooks was appointed as the U.S. Poet Laureate, the first African-American woman to serve in that position. Learn more about Brooks and explore her poetry here.
