Bio

Selena Quintanilla (1971-1995), known popularly by just her first name, was a Grammy Award-winning Latin recording artist whose contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican American entertainers of the late 20th century. Her story transcends cultural differences and continues to inspire people around the world. This National Medal of Arts was presented posthumously by President Biden.

For cementing Tejano music into the heart of the Nation. The youngest of the Quintanilla music family, Selena brought Latin music to the masses as the Queen of Tejano music and one of the most celebrated entertainers in our history. Her young life was tragically cut short, but her voice and spirit endure for the ages.
