Chairman Rocco Landesman Releases the Schedule for His Visit to Chattanooga, Tennessee, September 12-13, 2012

Washington, DC -- NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman will visit Chattanooga, Tennessee, September 12-13, 2012, as part of his Art Works tour. Landesman will learn more about Chattanooga's creative placemaking efforts and participate in the Arts Education Partnership's (AEP) National Forum: Arts Learning Without Borders. On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, Landesman will meet with the project leaders for Main Terrain, the effort to transform a vacant lot into the Main Terrain, a new urban park adjacent to Main Street in the city's Southside neighborhood. In 2011, Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga received an NEA Our Town grant to support this project and to help revitalize the once desolate neighborhood into a dynamic, creative district. That evening, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Landesman will participate in a community conversation around the topic of creative placemaking, presented by Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga, Public Art Chattanooga, The City of Chattanooga, and the Lyndhurst Foundation. This event is free and open to the public. On Thursday, September 13, 2012, Landesman will give the opening address at the Arts Education Partnership's Fall 2012 National Forum: Arts Learning Without Borders. Landesman will deliver news on the NEA's focus on arts education and share the lessons he's learned from traveling around the country. With an eye toward placing arts education center stage in the evolving education reform discussion, Landesman will speak on the NEA's new priorities and strategies for ensuring that America's young people have equal access to high-quality teaching and learning in the arts. Also as part of the forum, the NEA's director of arts education, Ayanna Hudson, will participate in the first plenary session of the day -- Arts at the Core: The Common Core State Standards and Implications for the Arts. The Arts Education Partnership's (AEP) Fall 2012 National Forum,Arts Learning Without Borders, explores the realities of today's educational landscape -- technological advances, new models of learning, educational funding, student assessments -- which are all carving out an increasingly critical role for the arts to unleash new ways of thinking, working, and learning in America's classrooms and society.    Please see the full schedule for more information. Events open to the public are marked as such below.
