NEA Chairman Jane Chu to Visit Bloomfield Hills and Detroit, Michigan, June 1, 2015
Washington, DC—NEA Chairman Jane Chu will visit Bloomfield Hills and Detroit, Michigan, on June 1, 2015. Her trip will include a tour of Cranbrook Art Museum and a visit to Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. Follow @NEAJaneChu on twitter for photos and commentary on her visit to Michigan.
Chairman Chu will begin her visit to Michigan at Cranbook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills. Chairman Chu will tour the museum and learn about their education programs. The museum is currently participating in the NEA’s Blue Star Museums program along with more than 35 other museums across Michigan. Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the NEA, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 through Labor Day, September 7, 2015.
That afternoon, Chairman Chu will visit Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. The NEA support’s Mosaic’s Core Training Program, a multi-phase, theater-based performing arts program for youth. Chairman Chu’s visit will include a tour of the building, including discussion about Mosaic’s partnership with University Prep Science and Math Elementary School as their arts organization in residence. She will also see a short performance by the Mosaic Singers and the Mosaic Acting Company and meet with the students.
