Dave Liebman on the importance of jazz education
MUSIC: Green Dolphin Street
NEA JAZZ MASTER DAVE LIEBMAN IS ONE OF OUR GREAT ADVOCATES FOR JAZZ EDUCATION, HAVING SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS GIVING CLINICS ABOUT THIS MUSIC.
Dave Liebman: In a certain way, education has become, to my mind, it's the life-line of the music now. It's where the really, where the interest is, and where the activity really is.
IN 1989, HE FOUNDED THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS OF JAZZ, AN ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO NETWORKING EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.
Dave Liebman: And, you know, everybody asks me, "Why do you do it?" Well, I mean, first of all it's, as I said, it's practical, it's makin' an income. I mean, that's the real deal. But the other thing is the pay back, that this is my way of thanking Miles and Elvin, and Louis Armstrong, or whoever. That this is the payback. Because passing this on is my job, our job.
MUSIC: up for punctuation, then fades under and out
