Eddie Palmieri on his first recording gig

WHEN NEA JAZZ MASTER EDDIE PALMIERI PLAYS THE PIANO IT BECOMES A TOTAL EXPERIENCE FOR HIM. WHILE  THRILLING TO HEAR LIVE, HIS PERFORMANCE POSES A CHALLENGE IN THE RECORDING STUDIO.

PALMIERI: My first recording gig? That was a problem. When I play, I [GRUNTS] and now they stop the recording, and "What is that?" And now we stop and now we start looking for this sound. What is this that we’re hearing? What’s the matter? And everybody’s looking, and then they realize it was me.  As I’m playing. So now they either wanted to gag me when I played, or certainly cover the whole piano, which they did. It was a, it was a mess, you know. But after that, the guy goes up, "If that’s the way he plays, just leave him alone." You know.
