Jack DeJohnette on the richness of the creative gift

NOW, A JAZZ MOMENT…

MUSIC: India (Jack DeJohnette)

Jack DeJohnette:  When I was 16 or 17 I looked out the window.  And by then I’d discovered I really wanted to play this music.  And I had this passion.  I just felt this energy.

NEA JAZZ MASTER, JACK DEJOHNETTE…

Jack DeJohnette:  And I said, OK, I’m rich, I’m rich.  And I didn’t mean in terms of dollars and sense.  I just meant I felt blessed with a richness of this creative gift.  And that abundance would come to me.  And I put a trust in that.  And it’s been a support to me to this day.  It just feels like something was lifting, coming through me, lifting me up and carrying me.  And all I had to do was acknowledge this gift and put it to use.
