Joanne Brackeen on Playing The Million Dollar Theater in High School
Joanne Brackeen: I got my own little trio when I was 16.
ARMED WITH TALENT AND CONFIDENCE TO SPARE, JOANNE BRACKEEN PLAYED THE PIANO IN JAZZ CLUBS WHILE HER FELLOW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE COUNTING SHEEP.
Joanne Brackeen I remember going to school, and at that time I got a job through some other musicians that knew me at a club called the Million Dollar Theater, Downtown Los Angeles.
Canyon up, hot
And that job started maybe 9:00, and it got off at around 1:00 in the morning. So I got home about 3:00, and—and I should be to school at 7:00 in the morning, so I went about half the time. All you have to do is just, you know, find out what the homework was and just do it.
