Joanne Brackeen on Playing The Million Dollar Theater in High School

PLAYING THE MILLION DOLLAR THEATER AS A TEENAGER [:59] NOW, A JAZZ MOMENT Canyon under Joanne Brackeen: I got my own little trio when I was 16. ARMED WITH TALENT AND CONFIDENCE TO SPARE, JOANNE BRACKEEN PLAYED THE PIANO IN JAZZ CLUBS WHILE HER FELLOW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE COUNTING SHEEP. Joanne Brackeen I remember going to school, and at that time I got a job through some other musicians that knew me at a club called the Million Dollar Theater, Downtown Los Angeles. Canyon up, hot And that job started maybe 9:00, and it got off at around 1:00 in the morning. So I got home about 3:00, and—and I should be to school at 7:00 in the morning, so I went about half the time. All you have to do is just, you know, find out what the homework was and just do it.

THIS JAZZ MOMENT WITH NEA JAZZ MASTER JOANNE BRACKEEN WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
