MUSIC:

CD: Scratch Daniel Humair, Dave Holland & Kenny Barron
1985 Enja Records
NEA JAZZ MASTER KENNY BARRON HAS BEEN A HIGHLY RESPECTED JAZZ EDUCATOR FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. IN THAT TIME, HE'S OBSERVED A LOT OF CHANGE -- NOT ONLY IN THE JAZZ WORLD, BUT IN THE STUDENTS WHO ASPIRE TO ENTER IT.
Kenny Barron: They're at a much higher level than I was at the same age, like in terms of technique and sight reading and things like that, the young guys are really amazing. I think one of the disadvantages ? I don't want to say disadvantages ? one of the problems with learning the music just through an academic situation is that you don't learn a lot about emotion. You kind of play from your head as opposed to your heart. But as they get older, I think they'll learn.
MUSIC:up and fades
THIS JAZZ MOMENT WITH PIANIST KENNY BARRON WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
