Sheila Jordan on scat singing

NOW, A JAZZ MOMENT… MUSIC: My Favorite Recipe (Sheila Jordan)                         CD: Jazz Child

HighNote Records 1999

Sheila Jordan:  When I scat it’s an emotional feeling, but instead of usin’ words, I’m just usin’ sounds. NEA JAZZ MASTER, SHEILA JORDAN… Sheila Jordan:  Like when a horn player plays, they do not play words.  But you get the feeling from, like a Charlie Parker, I hear every word in that song.  Even though he is not SAYING the words.  So to me, scatting is like words.  They’re bebop words.  MUSIC: post for punctuation THIS JAZZ MOMENT WITH VOCALIST SHEILA JORDAN WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
