Terri Hinte on Orrin Keepnews's atrributes

NOW, A JAZZ MOMENT...

MUSIC: Ruby, My Dear (McCoy Tyner, Trident)

Terri Hinte:  The one session that usually pops into my head, first, was a McCoy Tyner trio date and I heard them do "Ruby, My Dear." And that really turned my head around.

JAZZ PUBLICIST TERRI HINTE'S SHARPLY ATTUNED EARS COME FROM WORKING SIDE BY SIDE WITH NEA JAZZ MASTER ORRIN KEEPNEWS -- ONE OF THE MOST LEGENDARY RECORD PRODUCERS IN THE HISTORY OF THIS MUSIC.

Terri Hinte:  One thing I have learned from the nearly 40 years that I've know Orrin, watching him work and being involved with him in many projects over the years, is that there's so much that goes into a recording project that is not visible to the average record-buyer. The early discussions about repertoire, personnel, where to record, how much to spend and then timing of release, liner notes, credits, cover photos - all of these details are things that Orrin always had his hands on if it was one of his projects. And he has a really profound understanding of each part of the project.

MUSIC: up for punctuation, then fades under and out

THIS JAZZ MOMENT WITH TERRI HINTE ON PRODUCER ORRIN KEEPNEWS WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.  I'M CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE.
