Sneak Peek: Cord Jefferson Podcast

Cord Jefferson: You know, people say "This is your first movie. You got this tremendous ensemble," and the thing that I say is "Look what happens when you write real roles for black people, when you really give people substantial characters who feel real and who feel dynamic and who feel complex and nuanced and multilayered and who have beginning, middles and ends and real stories to tell, and they're not just there to come out and say some expository dialogue and then they either disappear or die while the white lead goes to save the day." And this isn't just my assumption. This is what the actors told me themselves, that these roles don't come along for them.
