Sneak Peek: Revisiting Dana Tai Soon Burgess Podcast

Dana Tai Soon Burgess: When I first started the dance company, all of our dancers were Asian American. And this is in, you know, the early ‘90s. And Washington DC was a very different city. There was very little representation in the arts for Asian Americans. And I had a whole community of artist friends that wanted to have a voice. And I think that we came together as dancers and me as a choreographer and also visual artists who are making our set designs, video artists and created something very, very special at that time. And as the years went by I became more and more interested in expanding that vision and becoming more inclusive. And I think that there was an evolution in a sense of the company in order to reflect where we are in America today.
