OLD DOGS SHORTCUT
Mel Tillis: The Old Dogs…It was me, Waylon Jennings, and Jerry Reed and Bobby Bare. It's all songs that was written by the late and great Shel Silverstein.
Old Dogs up and hot Bobby Bare put the singers together and produced it all. And I'd fly in on my day off, and I'd put down my part. Every now and then, we'd all be together in the studio. It turned out really, really good. And old Shel Silverstein just had some great songs. Well, you know, he wrote "A Boy Named Sue." His songs were songs and we made ‘em country, by us singing them. We're country artists, but I thought the songs were just great. He had one about Marilyn Monroe and the grandstanding. And Joe di Maggio was out on the ball field. Boy, what a great song that was. Had one about alimony.
