Guy Mendilow Ensemble — Una Noche Al Borde De La Mar
According to musician Guy Mendilow, “This (story) initially comes from Sofia, Bulgaria, in the 1930s. We’ve recast it to tell the story of a captain from the former Ottoman Navy who was a decorated war hero. But as fascism spread in the 1930s, he is seeing that so much of what he fought for is falling apart. And in the end, because he’s Jewish, his own family is taken away from him. He walks away from that life and that nation which he believes is moving towards fear and hatred and ignorance. And this, by the way, is a true story. This is one of my own family members.” This song is on The Guy Mendilow Ensemble’s album The Forgotten Kingdom.
