This Arts Data Profile describes artists and cultural workers in the U.S. labor force. A variety of federal datasets are used to report the number of artists and cultural workers, their employment trends and earnings, and their key demographic characteristics.

The interactive graphic, below, enables users to compare the earnings of all artists in the labor force with those of workers in specific artist occupations. For all artists and specific types of artists, the graphic also reports the respective shares of self-employed and female artists.
