Facts and Figures

In the past five years, the National Endowment for the Arts distributed $2,173,266 in federal funding, either directly or through territory and regional partners, in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

In information gathered by the Arts Endowment from 2017 County Business Patterns, produced by the U.S. Census Bureau, and World Development Indicators, produced by the World Bank, Northern Mariana Islands…

  • Employed 79 workers in the arts and cultural industries, with workers earning wages and benefits totaling more than $1.2 million

In addition to offering direct grants, the NEA supports national initiatives benefiting people across the country. Over the past five years:

The NEA Big Read program generated 21 community events focused on reading outstanding American literature and involving more than 1,207 adults and students in Northern Mariana Islands.

2003 National Heritage Fellows Felipe I. and Joseph K. Ruak are the artistic directors of the Talabwog Man Stick Dancers, a traditional Carolinian dance group in Saipan, an island in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
