Washington, DC This week's podcast is a conversation with 2010 National Heritage fellow, fiddler Jim ?Texas Shorty? Chancellor. Jim is one of the great Texas fiddlers. What puts the "Texas" in Texas fiddle? According to Jim, Texas fiddling takes old, simple tunes and embellishes them while still keeping the integrity of the original. A student of the remarkable fiddler Benny Thomassen, Jim became the youngest person to win Texas?s World Championship fiddle contest. It wasn't a fluke; he went on to become the second fiddler in the history of the event to win the contest three consecutive times. (Thomassen was the first!)
