Michael Chabon on "A Wizard of Earthsea"
After recently stumbling into an (older) review of Wes Anderson's movies by the remarkable writer, Michael Chabon, I was reminded of Chabon's memorable breakdown of the Big Read novel, A Wizard of Earthsea, by one of his favorite writers, Ursula K. Le Guin. Curiously, both Wes Anderson's movies and the Earthsea trilogy—though steeped in different genres, not to mention landscapes—depict these carefully crafted worlds filled with magic and heartache not to mention loss of innocence. Here's Chabon's brief summary of the Earthsea plot. Hopefully he'll get you fired up to read this incredible book about a boy wizard and his complicated journey through life.
