Timeline of NEA Highlights

2020

Native Arts & Culture: Resilience, Reclamation, and Relevance, a first-of-its-kind national convening that was hosted by the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Native Arts & Cultures Foundation in February 2020, brought together members from more than 40 tribal nations as well as the heads of several federal agencies.

2021

In 2021, the NEA received $135 million through the American Rescue Plan (ARP) to help the arts and culture sector recover, rebuild, and reopen.

2022

In 2022, NEA collaborated with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to increase awareness of GSA’s Art in Architecture program and to promote federal art commission opportunities for artists that reflect the diversity of communities across the nation. 

2023

In November 2023, the NEA announced a new initiative to expand access to arts participation in our country. A partnership with South Arts and in collaboration with the other five U.S. Regional Arts Organizations (RAOs), ArtsHERE is providing non-matching grant support for organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to equity within their practices and programming. Grants fund specific projects that strengthen grantees’ capacity to sustain meaningful community engagement and increase arts participation for underserved groups/communities.

2024

On January 30, 2024, the White House Domestic Policy Council and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) co-hosted a first-of-its-kind convening to share insights and explore opportunities for arts organizations and artists to contribute to the health and well-being of individual and communities, invigorate physical spaces, fuel democracy, and foster equitable outcomes.
