If there's anyone who understands the range of emotions the four musicians who will be honored at tonight's 2022 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert will be experiencing, it's vocalist Dianne Reeves, who offered the following upon being honored as an NEA Jazz Master in 2018:

"I am humbled and honored to be a recipient of the NEA’s Jazz Master award, and to be seated in proximity to so many extraordinary, historic artists who have elevated the music to the station of greatness it now occupies…with untold greatness awaiting.”

We're excited that Reeves will be part of this year's celebration too, taking on hosting duties as we return to the first live NEA Jazz Masters celebration in two years. Luckily for us, Reeves is as good a raconteur as she is a musician, and we've had a few opportunities to speak with her over the years, for the American Artscape issue celebrating women artists as well as for an episode of the Art Works podcast.

It seems fitting on this very special day to also revisit Reeves' own Jazz Masters Tribute videoembedded below—which offers a glimpse of Reeves at home.

We hope you'll join us tonight for the 2022 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert, in collaboration with SF Jazz, at which we'll joyfully and musically welcome Stanley Clarke, Billy Hart, Donald Harrison, Jr., and Cassandra Wilson into the growing family of jazz legends who have received the nation's highest honor for jazz musicians and advocates. You can watch live on arts.gov at 7:30pm PT/10:30 pm ET. See you there!
